The United Arab Emirates (UAE) is gearing up for a monumental leap in the world of esports with the launch of “Arena Esports,” a comprehensive gaming platform set to redefine the gaming experience not only within the Gulf state but also across the broader Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region.
A Strategic Partnership to Propel the Gaming Ecosystem
In a strategic collaboration, the Abu Dhabi Department of Culture and Tourism (DCT Abu Dhabi) has joined forces with etisalat by e& to introduce Arena Esports. This ambitious initiative is slated to span the next five years and is poised to become a pivotal element in the regional gaming matrix, catering to players of all skill levels.
Arena Esports promises a 360-degree gaming experience, offering a diverse range of opportunities for players, from beginners seeking an introduction to the gaming world to seasoned professionals hungry for competitive tournaments and exclusive events.
Adnan Al-Awadi, the Support Services Executive Director at DCT Abu Dhabi, expressed the alliance’s commitment to nurturing the creative industries, identifying gaming and esports as key pillars for growth. He stated, “This synergy aims to boost the gaming ecosystem in the UAE and the MENA region, and we are eager to see the positive impact.”
Recognizing the Potential of a Thriving Sector
Khaled Elkhouly, Chief Consumer Officer at etisalat by e&, emphasized the unlimited potential of the rapidly growing gaming sector, which boasts more than 377 million subscribers in the MENA region. He highlighted their dedication to exceeding customer expectations through technological transformation.
The launch of Arena Esports follows closely on the heels of the Dubai Program for Gaming 2033, a visionary initiative aimed at positioning Dubai as a global gaming hub and generating 30,000 new jobs in the gaming sector by 2033. Meanwhile, neighboring Saudi Arabia has been actively enhancing its esports and gaming sectors with significant investments and acquisitions of major esports brands.
Projections and Market Insights
With the gaming market in the MENA region projected to exceed USD 5 billion by 2025, the combined gaming market of Saudi Arabia, the UAE, and Egypt is anticipated to reach USD 3.14 billion over the same period. These figures underscore the immense economic potential and cultural significance of the gaming industry in the region.
UAE Leads in Gaming Enthusiasm
Highlighting the UAE’s avid interest in gaming, a global survey from the previous year revealed that the country boasts the highest percentage of adult gamers, with nine out of ten adults actively participating in gaming.
