ESIC Enforces Two-Year Ban on Four Esports Players for Match-Fixing Violations
The Esports Integrity Commission (ESIC) has taken a firm stance against corruption in esports by suspending four professional players: Dmytro “SENSEi” Shvorak, Maksym “THRONE” Semenov, Artur “DarkS1DE” Kravchenko, and Danylo “nat1ve” Bakin. This decision follows an extensive investigation into allegations of match-fixing and breaches of the ESIC Anti-Corruption Code involving the teams Akuma, Project X, and Majesty. The players have been barred from all ESIC member events for a period of two years.
Overview of the Case
The investigation into these players was triggered by substantial betting evidence and confidential tips, revealing their involvement in match-fixing activities. These actions, which are in direct violation of the ESIC Code of Conduct and Anti-Corruption Code, include:
- Dmytro “SENSEi” Shvorak’s attempts at match-fixing during multiple LAN events with Team Project X.
- Maksym “THRONE” Semenov’s active participation in match-fixing at a Bulgarian LAN event with Team Majesty.
- Artur “DarkS1DE” Kravchenko’s involvement in match-fixing at the same Bulgarian LAN event with Team Majesty.
- Danylo “nat1ve” Bakin’s engagement in match-fixing activities at the Bulgarian LAN event with Team Majesty.
These players are collectively referred to as the “Sanctioned Participants.”
Investigation and Charges
The ESIC’s investigation was comprehensive, involving the analysis of betting patterns, match footage, witness testimonies, and collaboration with Anti-Corruption Supporters. The evidence gathered led to each individual being charged with violations of the ESIC’s Anti-Corruption Code, particularly concerning corruption and betting-related activities.
The specific charges included:
- 2.1 Corruption: Involvement in fixing or improperly influencing the result, progress, conduct, or any other aspect of a match.
- 3.1 Anti-Corruption Code: Engaging in betting, gambling, or similar activities that could potentially create a conflict of interest.
- Additional breaches under the ESIC Code of Conduct, including actions that bring disrepute to esports, the game, the event, ESIC, or its members.
The Sanctioned Participants were each served with a Notice of Charge on 24 October 2023. They did not provide any response to these charges.
Sanction Duration
In line with the ESIC Anti-Corruption Code, the commission has issued a Rejection Order against each individual, effective from 24 October 2023 to 24 October 2025. During this period, they are prohibited from participating in any ESIC member events and are required to adhere to all relevant provisions of the ESIC Anti-Corruption Code.
This decisive action by the ESIC underscores its commitment to maintaining the integrity and fairness of esports competitions worldwide. The suspension of these players serves as a stern reminder of the consequences of violating the ethical standards set by the commission.
