Riot Games Unleashes Vanguard Anti-Cheat: A Game-Changer for League of Legends in the 2024 Season
Riot Games responds to the escalating issues of cheating, scripting, and disruptive behavior in League of Legends by introducing Vanguard, their official anti-cheat software.
In a move to ensure the fairness of League of Legends Riot Games has officially introduced Vanguard, an anti cheat system. The exciting announcement came from Andrei “Riot Meddler” van Roon, the Head of League studio during the preview event, for the 2024 LoL season. This step marks a milestone in the fight against cheaters, scripters and disruptive elements within the game.
Van Roons official statement highlighted that integrating Vanguard was a response to concerns raised by the community regarding an increasing number of bots smurfs in Ranked matches and a rise in scripting activities. Taking inspiration from Vanguards success in Riots first person shooter VALORANT this system is designed to terminate games once any form of cheating is detected ensuring an competitive environment for all players involved. Additionally those affected by these interventions will have their ranked points rightfully restored.
However Vanguards journey has not been without controversy. The introduction of its ‘kernel mode’ driver raised concerns among the VALORANT community as some players experienced issues with software and control devices. Since 2020 though Riot has actively worked on improving how this software interacts with players systems based on their experience, with VALORANT.
This aims to find a balance, between ensuring a gaming environment and minimizing any disruptions that players may experience.
The introduction of Vanguard aligns with Riots commitment to combatting cheating and ensuring play. It’s worth noting that the anti cheat measures on servers, which automatically disconnect players when suspicious activities are detected have set a precedent for initiatives. The recent incident involving pro player JackeyLove, who faced consequences for disconnecting due to gameplay highlights the importance of having an anti cheat system in place.
Vanguard, which is hailed as Riots cheat solution differs from third party programs that may lack the same level of integration and oversight. This move showcases Riots dedication to creating a gaming environment where skill and sportsmanship are valued.
Looking beyond Vanguard Riot Games has teased updates for the 2024 season. These include a trailer for Arcane Season 2 as significant changes, to the competitive formats of both Worlds and MSI. As players gear up for a year of League of Legends the implementation of Vanguard adds a layer of security promising fair and exhilarating gameplay.
