Dell Technologies has made an investment of USD 250,000 to enhance the esports arena at the Mexican university Tecnológico de Monterrey Campus Estado de México (CEM), marking a major step in revolutionizing the esports infrastructure. The Borregos Alienware esports arena now boasts top of the line gaming equipment. Margarita González Osorio, CGS Lead, describes the 22 Alienware Aurora R15 gaming computers as cutting-edge technology towers. These machines are powered by 13th generation Intel processors. Feature advanced cooling and ventilation systems, 25-inch 240Hz monitors and wireless headsets. The deployment of this state of the art equipment was made possible through collaboration with Intel and Grupo JAR.
With the inauguration of this facility at Tec de Monterrey CEM expands its gaming footprint further. This marks the gaming arena established by Tec de Monterrey in Mexico, following previous launches at its Guadalajara campus in 2019 and its Monterrey campus in 2022. Verónica Pedrero, Campus Director, shared this news during the inauguration ceremony on November 1.
Tec de Monterrey has dedicated an allocation of 5 million pesos for adapting the arena space. As a result, it now features LED RGB lighting and ambient sound to create an experience for gamers and spectators alike. The significant investment of 10 million pesos demonstrates the institution’s dedication to promoting student groups as part of a well rounded education. The construction of the arena serves as an academic foundation and nurtures essential skills like leadership, strategic thinking, decision making, motor skills and memory development.
Envisioning Growth for the Community and Academics
Óscar López Trujillo, Director of Leadership and Student Formation for the Mexico City region, highlighted that the CEM arena is the largest within the Tec system, covering an area of 210 square meters. It aims to become a gathering place that fosters community engagement while offering comprehensive training programs and promoting overall well-being. Popular games such as League of Legends (LoL) and Valorant will be prominently featured in this gaming space.
Santiago Cardona, Intel’s General Manager for Hispanoamérica, emphasized Mexico’s presence in the gaming world. With over 80 million gamers, representing 60% of the population, Mexico stands as a force globally. It ranks fifth in terms of gaming interest and time spent on video games. Recognizing gaming as a discipline by the Confederación Deportiva Mexicana (Mexican Sports Confederation), Cardona envisions vast opportunities for the country.

Roberto García Medina, General Director of JAR group, underscored their commitment to utilizing technologys capabilities to foster innovation and progress. JAR serves as a technology partner, offering potential opportunities in virtual reality (VR), augmented reality (AR), and Artificial Intelligence (AI).
Excitement for Future Possibilities
Rodrigo Coss and León Gaytán the presidents of Rampage Gaming, a student group, expressed their enthusiasm for the arena’s potential for nurturing talent. They emphasized its academic applications in interactive software development, which extend beyond just entertainment to fields like medicine, biotechnology and robotics.
Accessible Plans for the Future
It was announced that the arena will be available on a scheduled basis starting in January 2024. This availability promises to create a hub where both gaming enthusiasts and those interested in exploring the ranging applications of interactive technology in academia can come together.
