ESIC Announces Two-Year Ban on Esports Player Burak “Monkeylay” Can Turunc
The Esports Integrity Commission (ESIC) has recently concluded an extensive investigation, resulting in significant disciplinary action against Burak “Monkeylay” Can Turunc, a well-known figure in the professional esports arena and a former player for the team “NoChance”. This action comes in response to multiple violations of the ESIC Anti-Corruption Code, particularly during the Intel ESL Turkiye CS:GO Sampiyonasi – Sezon XII – Playoffs.

Case Overview
The allegations against Mr. Turunc are severe and multifaceted, focusing on corrupt practices that undermine the integrity of esports. Key violations include:
- Betting against his own team, “NoChance,” during the competition.
- Engaging in activities aimed at manipulating match outcomes for betting purposes.
Investigation and Charges
The ESIC’s investigation was comprehensive, involving a detailed analysis of betting records, account registrations, digital footprints, and betting patterns. The evidence, crucially supported by Anti-Corruption Supporter member betting operators, led to the formal charges against Mr. Turunc. These charges include breaches of several articles of the ESIC Anti-Corruption Code, such as:
- Corruption (Article 2.1), involving:
- Fixing or improperly influencing any match aspect.
- Ensuring the occurrence of specific incidents in a match for corrupt purposes.
- Involvement in bribery to influence match outcomes.
- Betting (Article 2.2), including:
- Betting on CS:GO matches, particularly those involving the player.
- Assisting others in betting-related misconduct.
- Failure to disclose relevant information (Article 2.3.1).
Additionally, Mr. Turunc’s actions contravened the ESIC Code of Conduct, bringing disrepute to the esports community.
Despite the presentation of substantial evidence and a plea bargain offer that could have resulted in a reduced sanction, Mr. Turunc did not engage with the ESIC’s disciplinary process.
Sanction Duration
Given the severity of the charges and in line with the ESIC’s regulatory framework, the Commission has imposed a two-year ban on Mr. Turunc, effective from the date of the initial Notice of Charge. This ban, lasting until midnight on 6 September 2025, prohibits Mr. Turunc from participating in any capacity within ESIC member events.
Conclusion
This decision by the ESIC highlights its unwavering commitment to upholding the highest standards of integrity and fair play in the esports industry. The comprehensive investigation and subsequent sanction against Mr. Turunc serve as a clear message about the serious consequences of violating the Anti-Corruption Code. The esports community continues to observe the ESIC’s efforts in maintaining a competitive and ethical environment for all participants.
