FIDEs Recognition, by GEF. A New Era for Chess in Competitive Gaming

In a move that will reshape the world of esports the International Chess Federation (FIDE) has become a member of the Global Esports Federation (GEF) marking an exciting revolution for chess in competitive gaming.

The significance of this alliance is further emphasized by the election of Dana Reizniece Ozola, Deputy Chair of FIDE Management Board to the GEF Board. Her role is crucial in guiding FIDEs involvement and dedication to the evolving realm of esports.

FIDE embarked on its journey into esports by applying for membership with the Global Esports Federation on September 29th. Their mission revolves around embracing chess formats, online training techniques, competitive events and fostering a sense of community among chess enthusiasts worldwide.

this year chess achieved a momentous victory, on the international stage when it featured prominently in the 2023 Olympic Esports Series.The chess competition witnessed a turnout of 42,000 participants, from 219 countries during the qualifying stages.

During the Global Esports Federation General Assembly in Riyad on December 12 Dana Reizniece Ozolas election to the GEF Board highlights FIDEs role in shaping the future of chess within the esports domain.

Expressing her excitement Dana Reizniece Ozola said, “I am honored to join this family and represent chess and FIDE.” She emphasized their dedication to promoting esports credibility and prestige while suggesting ways to seamlessly integrate chess into esports events.

FIDEs affiliation with the Global Esports Federation goes beyond symbolism; it is an effort to establish bonds with the esports community. This includes developing competition formats sharing expertise with esports stakeholders for event organization and advancing chess, in the evolving world of esports.
